Operations Support Coordinator
With a passion for seeing ambitious founders succeed; a talent for staying calm; and an ability to learn new skills ‘on the fly’, meet Sinead…
Why venture capital?
“I believe success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself; but rather what you do for others. Everyone who works for GD1 forms an integral part of a founder’s ‘support team’ and as part of that journey, we’re lucky enough to share in their highs and lows. It’s an incredible privilege to be trusted to help bring their vision to life.”
More importantly, why GD1?
“The team culture at GD1 is second to none - it’s inclusive and the company values everyone and their opinions; diverse skill sets and their quirks. Despite our difference, a passion to see Kiwi companies succeed on the global stage is what unites us. It’s always ‘all hands on deck’; all the time and that kind of teamwork is rare.”
What do you do at GD1, 9-5?
“I work closely with our Operations Manager to support everything (and anything) related to keeping GD1 running as smoothly as possible. This could include onboarding new investors; communicating with our current investors; ensuring accounts are up to date; eventing; the fitout of our new office and move… In short, it’s my job to anticipate the type of support stakeholders might need (logistical, financial and tech-related); and to act quickly and efficiently so that those needs are met.”
What makes a good Operations Support Coordinator?
“You need to be a super fast learner! There are a LOT of platforms you need to be across, and every day is an opportunity to acquire and apply a brand new skill to a brand new problem. Communication is also key, as is time management. Keeping those around you informed about what you’re planning to do, by when, ensures they feel prioritised.”
What’s your superpower?
“I have an innate ability to stay calm! With so much coming at anyone who works in operations, an ability to stay focused in the face of multiple demands is really important.”
What gets you up in the morning?
“Going on the journey with each company we support is why I jump out of bed in the morning. When my feet hit the ground, I know that the steps I’ll make today will leave an indelible mark in the history of Kiwi companies. I love helping write their success story, even if only in a very small way!”
If you won the lotto, what would you do?
“Like most people, I’d probably travel for a few months but at the end of my adventures, I’d still want to work at GD1!”
What would you say to someone wanting a career in venture capital?
“Learn to thrive at pace; and cultivate your love for seeing others win. VC is an opportunity to help others win BIG and to feel super proud of your role in that success.”
