Why we invested
Global math performance has been declining for 20 years, but Polymath's insight is that children aren't bad at math, they're scared of it, and fear shuts down the exact part of the brain needed to solve problems. Polymath is a sandbox game children actually want to play, with an adaptive algorithm underneath that uses spaced repetition to double the rate of learning by asking the right question at the right time. Teachers in over a third of New Zealand's primary schools are already using it, and the product has spread to the US, UK, Australia, and Canada without meaningful marketing spend. Sophie Silver brings educational psychology and Christian Silver brings game engineering experience from cloud gaming unicorn Improbable, and together they hacked their way to real classroom insights on almost no capital.
